Ok, so the Y2K bug never really bit, and we have sometimes gotten hyped up by doomsday sayers or approaching comets, that the end is near. But, what of the real life threats to our lives? Could you survive a flood, snakebite, epidemic, nuclear war or a blizzard?

This handbook of survival tactics is like a text book to staying alive in the face of disaster. Survival of the fittest, right? Well, maybe survival is also for the smartest. Learn what plants are poisonous or safe to eat, how to find water in the wild and how to make it drinkable. Brush up on your CPR procedures, be aware of the warning symptoms of disease, and gain knowledge needed in emergency childbirth, earthquakes or hostage situations.

Clearly written and illustrated, "Staying Alive" is an easy to understand, comprehensive guide that everyone should have in their library. You never know when you might be wishing you had read this one!

James Hitchcock, in his column "Book Smarts". "...great resource for those wanting to improve their disaster preparedness...an encyclopedic reference to all disasters big and small...."
"What it provides is advice on everything from starting a camp fire to surviving an asteroid impact.  Picture your trusty Boy Scout handbook with added chapters on a bunch of other cool stuff..."
"If you are the adventurous type to begin with, you might consider it an armchair safari, an enjoyable way to while away the evening without renting another disaster movie."
"... your chances of living through any disaster depend greatly on four 'personal survivability' elements: your preparedness, your 'survivor attitude', your creativity, and your good health; and as (this book) can arguably help with the first three of the four; perhaps you should consider it the cheapest life insurance policy you can buy."
Mr. Hitchcock says in a letter to the author:
"As a former Boy Scout and armchair survivalist, I found your book very interesting.  I have used it to refresh my skills while teaching outdoor survival tactics to members of the Southwest Michigan Young Marines, a youth leadership organization for boys and girls ages eight to 18, which is sponsored by the Marine Corps League, an organization of former and active duty Marines."
